Recently, I read a book, Directing Actors written by Judith Weston.

He demonstrates what constitutes a good performance, what actors want from a director, what directors do wrong, script analysis and preparation, how actors work, and shares insights into the director/actor relationship.

I found that there are many perspectives as similar as Agile.

"Show don’t tell"

First of all, in the book of Directing Actors, the director shouldn't indicate actors what they must or mustn't do. Instead, they should provide the actors with the tools and opportunities to showcase their unique talents and abilities. In Agile methodology, this approach is often referred to as the "bottom-up" approach or self-organizing team.

"KISS - keep it simple stupid"

Additionally, Agile methodology emphasizes that tasks should only be elaborated upon when they are about to be executed with someone. In other words, team members do not need to figure out all the details of each task at the beginning. This concept can also be found in the book on Directing Actors, advises directors that it is unnecessary for the entire crew, including actors, to know every details of what they will do in the acting stage. Rather, it is crucial for them to understand why directors apply specific directing techniques to ensure an outstanding performance.

"Continuously listening"

Furthermore, observation and listening are the most imperative skill that directors must possess. The emotions and performance of actors should be carefully considered and precisely guided by directos. It is also a focal point for the Scrum Master, who facilitates both the daily stand-up meeting and the retrospective meeting in Agile methodology.

"Film is the art of accumulation"

In conclusion,  based on the aforementioned points, I am fully convined that the mindset in both Agile methodology and the principles outlined in the book on Directing Actors due to my background where I have been trainned with a focus on self-organizing team, progressive detailing, and practicing observation and listening skills among team members. I find a strong connection between these two domains.
